Diana In Art
Compiled By Mem Mehmet
To be published in August 13th, 2007 DIANA, PRINCESS OF WALES, was one of the most endearing icons of the 20thCentury. Her genuine warmth and ability to empathize with others earned her overwhelming affection around the world while her beauty and charisma made her an instant star with the world’s press. As she grew into her new role as wife, princess, mother and ambassador of good causes, so did her confidence as a royal cover girl and fashion leader appearing on the front pages of magazines and newspapers around the world on a daily basis.
Diana in Art is a unique tribute of portraits compiled from an extensive international community of artists. Mem Mehmet has spent many years gathering together over 200 beautiful paintings and drawings – executed in a variety of mediums including oils, acrylics, pastels and watercolors on canvas, board and paper – to create a remarkable gallery that celebrates the life of Diana, the People’s Princess. This ‘gallery’ features the work of over 100 great artists including Gene Boshkaykin, Andy Warhol and Duggie Fields the most famous of pop art artists, and the official commissions where Diana actually sat for the artists such as Bryan Organ, whose seminal image is now hanging in the NationalPortrait Gallery in London, Richard Foster, Israel Zohar, Andre Durand and Nelson Shanks, whose portrait was painted and hung in Kensington Palace during Diana’s life, and is now a centerpiece at Althorp – all united in seeking the essence of Diana.
